This book is a result of the various writing I’ve done over the last five years. They were written by and mostly about a young man who’s struggling and trying to put his life in order while going through multiple transformations as a person and as a writer. The short stories are a combination of fiction and autofiction based on multiple real-life events. All these stories and poems were initially published on my blog at johnloraine.com, and now they are getting a new life in this book. I started my blog in late 2019 as a place for me to practice writing. As an inspired writer, I needed to work my writing out, try different things, and dedicate myself to a steady writing routine. There hasn’t been a week or month where I haven’t written something. There is always something in the works. I try to post new material at least every other week. This keeps me productive and my writing habit on schedule.

johnloraine.com is turning three years in October of 2022, and I wanted to release this book in honor of this anniversary. My blog is not the typical blog you might find online. It is something different. I intended to build it this way and use it as a platform to share my writing with the world, with no boundaries, judgments, or filters. All these stories and poems published in this book underwent vigorous editing and grammar therapy, but no significant content changes were made. The original spirit lives on.

It’s been an incredible journey so far, and it’s been a great place for me to share all my writing and mainly to stay productive during this crazy thing called life. Over the years, I’ve collected plenty of material, and it would be a shame if it all got lost in the weeds of the web. It all varies in quality and literal value if any. But it’s mine. It’s what I’ve been going through over all these years, writing early in the morning and late at night, living the life of a writer, trying to make it happen, trying to become a writer, trying to live a dream, my fucking dream.
